A part of top US power firm Duke Energy, the regulated utility provides electricity services to 2.4 million customers in North and South Carolina. Operating in a 22,000-square mile service territory, the utility has more than 100,000 miles of distribution lines and a 13,000 mile transmission system, and has a net generating capacity of more than 19,320 MW from interests in fossil-fueled, nuclear, and hydroelectric power plants. Duke Energy Carolinas also sells power to wholesale customers.
