DreamWorks Company Description

DreamWorks woke up to media consolidation. Created in 1994 by Steven Spielberg (film director/producer), Jeffrey Katzenberg (former Disney film executive and animation guru), and David Geffen (recording industry maven), DreamWorks produces live-action movies (Transformers) and TV shows (Las Vegas). Initially an experiment in creating a diversified media company, DreamWorks struggled with any business beyond filmed entertainment and shed its other operations, including arcade business GameWorks (a venture with SEGA and Universal Pictures) and a music label (sold to Universal Music). Big money maker DreamWorks Animation was spun off to shareholders. The three founders sold DreamWorks to rival Paramount in 2006.
