Dow was Canadian-born -- the man, not the company. Herbert Dow was born in Canada, and his company still does a lot of business there through Dow Chemical Canada. The Dow subsidiary operates manufacturing plants and distribution facilities throughout Canada, spread from Quebec to British Columbia. Dow Canada makes all manner of basic chemicals and plastics like ethylene (which it uses to make other of its products like polyethylene), vinyl chloride monomer, Styrofoam (a Dow-trademarked brand), and epoxy resins. Among Dow Canada's other products are ethylene glycol (used in antifreeze), polystyrene (used in synthetic rubber), and polyurethane resins (used in building materials).
