Dole Food Company Description
Bananas might be Dole Food's favorite fruit because they have "a-peel" but as the world's largest producer of fresh fruits and vegetables, it grows and sells much more than the slip-causing fruit. At 34 million boxes a year, the company is the #2 producer of pineapples (behind Fresh Del Monte Produce). It also offers citrus, table grapes, tree fruits, a myriad of veggies, dried fruits, and nuts. Not forgetting bananas though, Dole is one of the world's top banana producers (165 million boxes a year). It also makes value-added products (packaged salads, novelty canned pineapple shapes, and juice) to insulate itself from fluctuating commodity markets. Chairman David Murdock is the sole owner of Dole.
