FX from DVDs benefit from DivX, a digital media format for content playback, creation, and distribution. The company introduced a video compression-decompression (or codec) software library that has been downloaded more than 250 million times. It has built on the success of this technology by distributing the DivX software through its own Web site, and through licenses with consumer video hardware original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as LG Electronics, Samsung, and Philips.
