Distribución y Servicio Company Description
If Distribución y Servicio D&S doesn't have it, Chileans probably don't need it. Chile's largest supermarket chain (with about a third of the market), the company operates about 115 supermarkets and hypermarkets under the Lider and SuperBodega Acuenta banners that focus on food, but also offer cafés, apparel, electronics, and housewares. D&S also operates 30-plus discount food stores under the Ekono banner. The company has diversified into financial services with its Presto credit card; other divisions are devoted to apparel (Comvesa and its Boulevard line) and real estate (Saitec). Formed in 1893 as importer and wholesale distributor Gratenau y Cia, the firm is run and controlled by the Ibáńez family.
