Department of Commerce Company Description
What's up, DOC? At the US Department of Commerce (DOC), the answer to that question could go on for a while. DOC agencies cover everything from patents to population (the census), from telecommunications to technology, from weather (NOAA) to weights and measures. The department has a dozen bureaus related directly and indirectly to the regulation, development, and promotion of domestic and international trade. The forerunner of the DOC was established in 1903. Its mission is to foster and develop foreign and domestic trade. The DOC fulfills its mandate by helping create national trade policies, among other functions. The DOC budget is slightly more than $8 billion.
