Overview
Many Japanese shoppers think The Daimaru just might be getting a little bit fresh with them. Daimaru Matsuzakaya is one of Japan's largest department store operators, with about 15 upscale stores, primarily in Western Japan. The company's Daimaru Peacock unit also runs about 70 supermarkets in the Kanto and Kansai districts of Japan. Its stores contain a broad range of products, from prepared, boxed meals, to apparel under the company's own-brands, such as SOFUOL, Ramuz, Viamondo, and others, as well as international names. Founded as a Japanese drapery shop in 1717, Daimaru merged with Matsuzakaya Holdings Co. in 2007 to form a joint holding company J. Front Retailing Co.
