CSB Company Description
The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) investigates industrial chemical accidents and makes recommendations for remediation. While the board does not cite facilities for incidents, it works closely with plants, regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and labor groups to offer advice on preventing future accidents. Chemical and mechanical engineers, industrial safety experts, and other specialists comprise the CSB's investigative staff. The board is also authorized to investigate more general chemical accident hazards, whether or not an accident has happened. CSB was established in 1990 but did not begin operations until 1998. The board has an annual budget of about $10 million.
