Overview
Coventry Health Care wants to measure up in the tough world of managed care. Through numerous local health plans, the firm provides health care coverage to more than 4.6 million members, primarily in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. It offers HMO, PPO, and point-of-service (POS) plans to employer groups, as well as Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicaid managed care plans, and other coverage directly to individuals. Its Specialty unit administers (but doesn't underwrite) workers' compensation programs, providing services such as bill review and case management to insurers and employers; it also administers network rental and pharmacy benefit programs.
