A 64%-owned subsidiary of Hellenic Telecommunications (OTE), Cosmote Mobile Telecommunications provides digital wireless service to more than 4 million subscribers (60% of them prepaid) on its GSM (global system for mobile communications) network. The company's network reaches 100% of the population, and it is Greece's leading mobile carrier. Cosmote owns about an 83% stake in Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC), which has nearly two million subscribers. In April 2005 Cosmote bought GloBul (more than 600,000 subscribers) in Bulgaria and Cosmofon (25,000) in Macedonia from OTE.
