Overview
Cosan taps the sweet spot in the sugarcane, ethanol, and sugar triangle. Planting sugarcane on about 572,000 hectares and operating 20-plus sugar mills, the company is one of the world's largest growers and processors of sugarcane. It has capacity to crush about 60 million tons of sugarcane annually into raw and refined sugar products for human consumption and industrial use. In addition, Cosan is the largest ethanol producer in Brazil. Using part of its sugar harvest, it can produce some 1.7 billion liters of ethanol a year. The company's other activities include generating electricity using sugarcane by-products, managing an ethanol JV with Royal Dutch Shell, and operating about 4,500 fuel service stations.
