Overview
Cosalt began in 1873 as a collective of fishing vessel owners, from which launched an endeavor to outfit fleets for safety. In addition to safety equipment, the company provides inspection, maintenance, and some rental services for the offshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries. It supplies protective workwear for drillers, wire and fiber ropes, as well as lifeboats, jackets and rafts, and lifting machinery. Cosalt first floated on the public stock market in 1971. It bought a major stake in Danish engineering company APRO in 2010 to tap demand for wind energy in the UK and Europe. Amid the economic downturn, the company is navigating a restructuring as drilling activity and funds dry up.
