Overview
Conor Medsystems develops drug-eluting stents for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The firm is developing a line of stents, which prop open diseased vessels, that can also prevent restenosis (the closing of blood vessels) through the delivery of immunosuppressive drugs. Improving upon traditional drug-eluting stents, consisting of bare metal stents with a drug coating, Conor Medsystems has developed a stent specifically designed for drug delivery through the addition of hundreds of small holes in the stent. The holes serve as reservoirs for various drug compositions and offer greater control of the rate and direction of drug delivery. Johnson & Johnson acquired Conor Medsystems in 2007.
