When it comes to denim, Cone Denim (formerly Cone Mills) wears the pants. The world's #1 maker of denim is also the largest commission printer of home-furnishings fabrics in North America. Levi Strauss & Co., its largest customer, makes its 501 jeans solely from Cone Denim's proprietary fabric. The company makes jacquard fabrics and offers commission finishing, including custom printing and dyeing services, to the home decorative, specialty apparel, and craft fabrics markets. Cone Denim has a joint venture in Mexico to produce denims. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Cone Mills was bought by International Textile Group for $90 million ($46 million in cash and $44 million in debt) in 2004.
