CompUSA Company Description
CompUSA has been born-again, after a major crash in 2008. The company's assets were acquired by Systemax, a direct marketer of computers and related products. A pioneer in big-box computer retail, CompUSA now operates about 15 stores (down from more than 200 outlets in 2006), mostly in Florida, but also in several other states, and Puerto Rico, as well as an e-commerce site. The CompUSA brand, Web site, and the retail outlets were acquired by Systemax in 2008 as a vehicle for the expansion of its TigerDirect subsidiary, a multi-channel retailer of computers, consumer electronics, and digital media technology, and peripherals. Prior to its purchase by Systemax, CompUSA was bought by liquidator Gordon Brothers Group, which acquired it from its previous owner Mexico's Grupo Carso.
