freenet AG was born free and mobile. The result of the 2007 merger of German wireless operator mobilcom and ISP freenet.de, the company sells mobile phone access, dial-up and broadband Internet access, and data products and services. It also markets advanced phone and Internet services to businesses. freenet doesn't have its own mobile network so it resells network access from Deutsche Telekom, Royal KPN, and Telefónica SA. The company acquired rival debitel for $2.5 billion in 2008, creating one of the largest mobile phone operators in Germany.
