e2v technologies proves that vacuum tubes aren't just for Marshall amplifiers and 30-year-old radios. The company traces its roots to the 1940s, when it made magnetrons used in military radars. Today it makes high-powered vacuum tubes that are used in a wide range of sophisticated applications, including TV signal transmission, cancer radiotherapy, and linear accelerators. e2v also makes image sensors used in space vehicles (including the Hubble Space Telescope) and dental imaging equipment.
