Company Description

Any yahoo can go to Europe, but only this one can set up a Web presence there. A wholly owned subsidiary of the US-based Internet portal giant Yahoo!, the business segment has holdings in UK & Ireland, France, Spain, and Germany. The country-specific sites offer Yahoo!'s Internet search engine and Web directory, online news and information, and communication and e-commerce services. Yahoo! Europe generates most of its revenue through online advertising, but also charges subscriptions for premium services. Yahoo! entered Europe in 1996 with funding from partner SOFTBANK. Yahoo! Europe became a wholly owned subsidiary of the company in 2005 when Yahoo! acquired SOFTBANK's 30% stake in the European Web sites.
