The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has miles and miles of responsibility. Specifically, it manages nearly 12,000 miles of highways; more than 102,000 miles of locally-owned county, town, and municipal streets; and some 13,500 bridges. It also oversees about 70 public bus and shared-ride taxi systems; more than 130 airports; 3,400 miles of train track; and 15 commercial ports. It operates through five divisions that include the Division of Motor Vehicles, which provides vehicle registration and titling, driver examination and licensing, and dealer regulation and licensing; and the State Patrol, responsible for law enforcement and traffic safety. The WisDOT was established in 1967.
