A private, co-educational liberal arts college, Widener University offers a curriculum that emphasizes social awareness and civic engagement. It grants undergraduate and graduate degrees through eight schools (including a law school and school of nursing) and has an enrollment of some 6,500 students. Widener operates three auxiliary campuses in Pennsylvania and Delaware, in addition to its main campus just outside of Philadelphia. Its University College campus is geared towards part-time adult undergraduates.Widener University has had its current name since 1979, but its roots reach back to a group of 19th century boys' military academies.
