It's not about steel any more. Wendel Investissement represents the fortunes of the Wendels, one of France's oldest industrial families, who founded a steel empire in the Alsace region in 1704. Wendel Investissement's investment strategy focuses on firms in heavy industry, and the firm has a few scattered other industries. Key holdings include Oranje-Nassau, a Netherlands-based company active in oil and gas exploration and real estate; US-based Deutsch, which makes electrical connectors; and technical services provider Bureau Veritas , which went public in 2007. The company sold book publisher Editis in 2008. Also that year Wendel increased its stake in building materials company Saint-Gobain to more than 20%. To read the full description, subscribe now.
