Regional solid waste management firm Waste Services (formerly Capital Environmental Resource) is positioning itself as a solid alternative to the industry's big boys. After selling its US assets to focus on Canadian operations, the company is buying US solid waste companies. Waste Services operates in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, as well as in Arizona, Florida, and Texas. In 2007 the company served 80,000 commercial and industrial customers and 1.2 million residential customers and owned or operated six landfills, 22 transfer stations, 13 recycling facilities, and 34 collection companies.
