The unit of Walt Disney Studios develops and produces animated films for the Mickey Mouse empire. Traditionally a leader in two-dimensional animated films, Disney Animation temporarily abandoned the hand-drawn efforts after repeatedly losing ground at the box office to computer-generated rivals such as DreamWorks Animation and CGI leader Pixar (which later became another subsidiary of Disney).
