Wake Forest Bancshares is the holding company for Wake Forest Federal Savings & Loan Association, which has served residents and businesses of North Carolina's northern Wake and southern Franklin counties from a single location since 1922. Wake Forest Federal has benefited from growth in the nearby Research Triangle region of North Carolina by writing residential construction loans and one- to four-family home mortgages (combined, more than three-quarters of its loan portfolio). The association also offers checking and savings accounts, commercial mortgages, and land loans. Mutual holding company Wake Forest Bancorp owns about 55% of Wake Forest Bancshares.
