Established in 1982, VIT's marine terminals handle containerships and other vessels in Newport News, Norfolk, and Portsmouth. The terminals are linked by rail to the Virginia Inland Port in Front Royal, which serves as an intermodal container transfer facility conveying cargo from ships to trucks and vice versa.
