Virgin Mobile USA sells its phones with pre-paid and pay-as-you-go service plans through about 40,000 third-party retail stores, including Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart. Without a network to call its own, the company concentrates on sales and marketing. Virgin Mobile USA was acquired in late 2009 by Sprint Nextel for about $483 million.
