Company Description

If there is one law that Violator Records won't break, it's the self-imposed law of making money while retaining street cred. Music company Violator Records has represented hip-hop artists such as Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Macy Gray, Missy Elliott, and 50 Cent. The company has taken its clients from the hip-hop clubs into films, TV, and advertising, as well as the wireless businesses. CEO Chris Lighty founded the company with Mona Scott-Young and Todd Moscowitz. In 2008 Scott-Young left Violator to form her own company, Monami Entertainment; Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes followed her. Lighty was schooled in the business from hip hop pioneer Russell Simmons during his time at Rush Communications.
