Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is the most important economic center in Vietnam, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) helps to educate the booming workforce. Established in 1995 as one of two national universities in Vietnam, VNU-HCM includes five member universities (including schools of technology, social sciences, and natural sciences) and a research institute for environment and resources. It offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and about 200 graduate and doctoral programs. The university has a student population of 57,000 full-time and part-time undergraduates, and more than 3,300 post-graduates.
