Created from the 2007 merger of enzyme manufacturer Diversa and ethanol producer Celunol, the company operates a pilot plant for producing cellulosic ethanol in Louisiana and is constructing a demonstration-scale facility. Verenium also develops specialty enzyme products used to convert biomass into fuel, make industrial processing more efficient, and develop healthier feedstocks for animals and therapeutic proteins for humans.
