Company Description

Verenium has a lot of bacteria and fungus, but it's really a good thing. The company uses microbial DNA to manufacture enzymes to supply businesses involved in animal health and nutrition, grain processing, and oilfield services. It markets nine commercial brands of enzyme products, either independently or with partners. Verenium sold its cellulosic ethanol business in 2010 to BP for $98 million and its oilseed processing operations to Royal DSM in 2012 for $37 million. It now focuses on developing specialty enzyme products to convert biomass into fuel, making industrial processing more efficient, and developing feedstocks for animals and therapeutic proteins for humans.
