The hospital system of the Bexar County Hospital District, University Health System serves the residents (and rebels) of San Antonio and the surrounding region. Its flagship facility, University Hospital, has about 500 beds and is the primary teaching facility for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In addition to general medical and surgical care, the hospital is a designated Level 1 trauma center and offers care in a wide range of medical specialties. University Health System includes a network of primary and specialty care clinics.
