The United Nations comprises 192 member countries (nearly every country in the world) and works toward maintaining international peace and security and finding solutions for global economic and humanitarian problems. The UN conducts its mission through six main organs, the Economic and Social Council, the General Assembly, the International Court of Justice, the Secretariat, the Security Council, and the Trusteeship Council. The United Nations was founded in 1945 when the UN Charter was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the UK, the US, and a majority of other signatory countries.
