Remember when milk was delivered to the kitchen door? Founded by Carl H. Lindner Sr., United Dairy Farmers (UDF) launched Cincinnati's first cash-and-carry retail dairy store in 1940, changing the way the city bought its milk. UDF -- which buys milk from area dairy farmers, then processes and packages it for sale -- has grown into a chain of about 225 convenience stores, mostly in Ohio, but also in Kentucky and Indiana, and a wholesale ice cream business. The company, owned and run by the Lindner family, retails its own milk products, as well as Homemade Brand ice cream and frozen desserts, and a variety of other food products.
