U.S. Shipping Corporation (formerly U.S. Shipping Partners L.P.) hopes smooth sailing is in its future. The company provides long-haul marine transport services to US ports, delivering refined and specialty petroleum and chemical products. Its fleet of about a dozen vessels includes tug-barge units and tankers. U.S. Shipping's main customers, which are large oil and chemical companies, have included BP, SeaRiver Maritime (a unit of Exxon Mobil), and Shell. U.S. Shipping exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2009 after voluntarily filing earlier in the year. It was converted from a partnership to a private corporation after emerging from bankruptcy.
