US Ecology (formerly American Ecology) helps keep a lid on hazardous waste, industrial waste, and low-level radioactive waste. The company handles hazardous and nonhazardous waste at sites in Texas, Nevada, and Idaho, and it operates a low-level radioactive waste facility in Washington state. The company does about 40% of its business with private waste companies, more than 20% with state and federal agencies, and the rest with a variety of other industries. Customers include nuclear plants, steel mills, petrochemical facilities, and academic and medical institutions. US Ecology retains interests in several nonoperating waste-disposal facilities.
