Company Description
The US Department of the Interior (DOI) was established in 1849 to be, as one historian put it, "The Department of Everything Else." It initially absorbed a range of duties that didn't quite fit within the purviews of the other departments. These days, DOI manages America's lands, water, wildlife, and energy resources. The cabinet-level agency oversees eight bureaus including including the National Park Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the US Geological Survey, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. It manages about one-fifth of the nation's entire land area. Federally managed lands and offshore areas account for about 30% of the US's energy production.
