The independent and bipartisan US Commission on Civil Rights makes sure that federal civil rights laws are working. Specifically, it deals with discrimination based on age, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, sex, or by fraudulent practices in housing, voting, employment, and equal protection under the law. The USCCR has no enforcement abilities; it refers complaints to federal, state, and local agencies. In addition to investigating complaints, it publishes reports and guides on protecting civil rights in the areas of education, employment, race relations, voting, and legal justice. USCCR has six regional offices across the country, and operates The Robert S. Rankin Civil Rights Library. To read the full description, subscribe now.
