The UK Film Council makes a stand for all things cinematic in the UK. The not-for-profit group promotes the economic, cultural, and educational aspects of the UK film industry through investing in film development, production, training, international development, export promotion, distribution, exhibition, and education. It acts on behalf of the UK Government by allocating government grants and lottery funds, and also directly invests private money into film education and the industry. Established by the government in 2000, it also supports work related to cinema history through the British Film Institute (BFI). In 2009, the council and the BFI are making plans to merge. To read the full description, subscribe now.
