UD Trucks operates four manufacturing plants in Japan and a host of subsidiaries around the globe. Founded in 1935, the company (formerly Nissan Diesel Motor) is controlled by AB Volvo. UD Trucks absorbed its sister subsidiary, Volvo Nippon KK, in early 2010. The move transformed UD Truck's sales and service reach for both UD branded and Volvo trucks. For AB Volvo, the combination centralized management resources for driving UD Trucks' dealer network in Japan and abroad.
