Company Description

Turbine hopes massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) get your engine going. The company, best known for its inaugural Asheron's Call series, which it partnered with Microsoft to release in 1999, offers MMORPGs on both a free-to-play and subscription-based model. It started expanding its product line in 2006 with Dungeons & Dragons Online (a Hasbro brand licensed through Atari) and then in 2007 with Lord of the Rings Online. The former became in 2009 the first free-to-play premium MMORPG, the latter adopting that model in 2010. Later that year the company was acquired by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group for $160 million.
