Company Description
While most modern medicine is developed with an eye toward the new and improved future, Tongjitang Chinese Medicines looks to past. The company manufactures and sells modernized versions of traditional Chinese remedies. Its core product is an herbal formula, known as Xianling Gubao, used to treat osteoporosis. Tongjitang makes more than 55 products, about 40 of them Western remedies. In 2010 the company spent about $18 million to enter the traditional medicinal liquor market with the purchase Guiyang Liquor Factory. Tongjitang was formed in 1995 and went public in 2007. It was acquired and taken private by Hanmax and Fosun Industrial in 2011.
