Monarch's chrysalis is made of stone. The Monarch Cement Company quarries clay, limestone, and gypsum near its Kansas plant to make portland cement, ready-mixed concrete, and other building materials. It can produce more than 1 million tons of cement annually and serves customers in Kansas, Iowa, southeast Nebraska, western Missouri, northwest Arkansas, and northern Oklahoma. Its Monarch-brand portland cement is used in the production of ready-mixed concrete for constructing highways, bridges, and buildings. Chairman and president Walter Wulf Jr. and vice chair Byron Radcliff respectively control about 9% and 10% of the company.
