The heavy civil contractor evolved from a stone-crushing plant founded in 1890 by railroad engineer John S. Lane. The company and its affiliates are known for building highways, roads, bridges, railroads, dams, and mass transit systems, primarily in the eastern and southern US. The group also produces bituminous and precast concrete and mines aggregates at plants and quarries in the northeastern, mid-Atlantic, and southern US. Additionally, it sells and leases construction equipment. Lane Construction is owned by descendants of Lane and employees.
