Fredrick Engels helped pen a manifesto in 1848, but Chicago-area industrialist Frederick Ingalls helped found a hospital in 1923. Ingalls Memorial Hospital still serves Chicago's south suburbs. With more than 560 beds, the hospital offers a variety of acute and tertiary health care services, including cancer treatment, cardiovascular care, orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation services, neurosurgery, and other clinical services. It also operates specialty clinics in areas such as sleep therapy and addiction treatment. Ingalls Memorial Hospital is part of the not-for-profit Ingalls Health System.
