The British Film Institute (BFI) was established in 1933 to promote Britain's film and television culture. Among the BFI's many operations are film exhibition (BFI Southbank and the BFI London IMAX Cinema), periodical publishing (Sight & Sound, a monthly film magazine), video publishing (releases videos and DVDs), collecting and archiving (through the BFI National Library and the BFI National Film and Television Archive). The BFI also is involved with putting on two film festivals, The Times BFI London Film Festival and the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
