The Africa-America Institute (AAI) is a non-profit group that promotes cooperation and understanding between US and African leaders through African higher education and training. The group works with more than 200 colleges and universities in the US to offer degree programs, seminars, conferences, and symposia to Africans in nearly every nation on the continent. AAI receives its funding from private foundations, corporate donors, and the US government. The organization was founded in 1953 just as many African nations were beginning to gain their independence.
