In the land of Washington state, the Administrative Office of the Courts is the law of the land. Washington's court system consists of district and municipal courts, which deal with misdemeanor, traffic, and small claims issues; superior court for felony cases, domestic relations, juvenile matters, and appeals from lower courts; three district-level court of appeals; and the nine-member Supreme Court, which hears appeals and has judicial oversight on the executive and legislative branches of state government. Grand juries and special inquiry judges are available but rarely used in Washington law.
