The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum opened in 2001 and quickly became one of Austin's prime attractions for visitors and locals alike. The museum is named for the former lieutenant governor of Texas, who died in 1999, just months after leaving office. On the wall behind a statue of Bullock is the politician's famous catchphrase, "God bless Texas." The foundation runs the museum, which is governed by the State Preservation Board. The museum covers the history of Texas from prehistoric times, through the its independence as the Republic of Texas, and up to the present era. Many artifacts are on loan from other Texas museums. The museum features a 400-seat IMAX theater, a cafe, and a store. To read the full description, subscribe now.
