Formed in 1921 to build a better thermometer, Terumo is one of Japan's largest health care suppliers. The company makes a wide range of medical products used in hospitals and the home, including disposable supplies (syringes and bandages), blood collection equipment (blood bags and transfusion sets), home blood-glucose monitors, IV and enteral nutrients, catheters, and dialyzers. It also makes vascular grafts (used to bypass clogged blood vessels) and heart-lung machines used in heart bypass surgery. And yes, it still makes thermometers, too.
